Our Background history:
In October 2003, Claudia Goncalves and Mark Halliday founded the Charity The Edinburgh Shamanic Centre located then at 288 Portobello High Street, Edinburgh.
In August 2004, The Edinburgh Shamanic Centre was the first organisation to believe, support and contribute to the Brazilian project "A Roda do Sol" envisioned by Lilian Galvao. With the Edinburgh Shamanic Centre's first input and contribution Lilian started the project to support children affected or infected by HIV/AIDS in Brazil. A house was rented and the first “Social Mum” employed to care for the children arriving in the project. http://apoitcha.org/projetos/a-roda-do-sol/
In February 2005, the Edinburgh Shamanic Centre was the first organisations to believe and help visionary Sara Beauregard to create the Youth Vision Project.
Youth Vision is a unique programme offering Rites of Passage for young people age 14 to 18 yrs old in Edinburgh who are experiencing difficulties at school and with society in general. www.youthvisionscotland.co.uk
In October 2006, because the Shamanic Centre's work had expanded so much, it was decided that there was a need to have a name to represent everything they were doing. The name of the Charity then changed to Community Foundation for Planetary Healing - CFPH. It was a call for the coming together of other members of the community in alignment with their vision and principle of philantropy awakening our collective capacity to be of service to others. The CFPH then became the umbrella organisation holding the charitable status.
In October 2007, invisioned by Claudia Goncalves, the Holistic Community Health Project was created. It is a unique project offering complementary therapies and shamanic healing for people going through challenging times with their health and wellbeing who are either in low income or in financial hardship. The project counts with the support of 30 volunteers offering 23 therapies a week and a meditation group by contribution for the community.
In August 2008, On 08.08.08 Claudia and Mark got married. It was a beautiful Shamanic ceremony celebrated by Celtic Shaman Dr. Geo Trevarthen in the Community Woodland.
In August 2009, Youth Vision project applied for charitable status and was successfull. The charity has, since then, gone from strenght to strenght. Claudia Goncalves supports the work as the chairperson for Youth Vision.
In April 2010, due to more growth and expansion, The Edinburgh Shamanic Centre physically moved to Balerno, South West of Edinburgh, where the work concentrates mostly on Training Shamanic Practitioners.
In February 2011, in order to support the growth of the Holistic Community Health Project, the Edinburgh Shamanic Centre and the Community Foundation for Planetary Healing became two independent organisations with the Foundation retaining the charitble status. The same process of growth that Youth Vision went through in 2009.
The Edinburgh Shamanic Centre also have the great honour to have other well known and respected shamans visiting to share their work and wisdom from time to time: Don Americo Yabar, Leo Rutherford, Franco Santoro, Geo Trevarthen, David Wendl-Berry, Wayne Kealohi Powell and Robert Hawks .
